ARTIST STATEMENT

We are immersed in a matrix of intellectual, emotional and spiritual data, constantly formatting, editing and deleting as we construct and destruct time into a meaningful life. During the art of making we energize and develop a language/vocabulary of marks into a cohesive form of visual communication. Thru these actions, memories of color, line, form and space become desirable compositions for personal and societal consumption. What we keep, erase or dispose of is an expression of what we choose to prioritize, exclude or fail to acknowledge (neutral), decisions constantly being made in the making process. I paint and draw (therefore I make) to experience that dance of oneness that occurs when the fluid organization of mark making expresses that of the landscapes I have seen thru my travels. I am inspired by the natural world on all scales, from the profile of a rugged mountain range to the polished textures of river rock, clear desert sunrises and cloudy ocean sunsets bracket daily vistas, providing temporal and spatial boundaries for my spirit. Mark making as gestural recordings paired with the soft, silent open spaces of the paper, like sheet music for ones soul.
